Tree Level Supergravity and the Matrix Model

چکیده
It has recently been shown that the Matrix model and supergravity give the same predictions for three graviton scattering. This contradicts an earlier claim in the literature. We explain the error in this earlier work, and go on to show that certain terms in the n-graviton scattering amplitude involving v are given correctly by the Matrix model. The Matrix model also generates certain v terms in four graviton scattering at three loops, which do not seem to have any counterparts in supergravity. The connection of these results with nonrenormalization theorems is discussed.

We briefly review the computation of graviton and antisymmetric tensor scattering amplitudes in Matrix Theory from a diagramatic S-Matrix point of view. It is by now commonly believed that eleven dimensional supergravity is the low-energy effective theory of a more fundamental microscopic model, known as M-theory. A proposed definition of M-theory has been given in terms of the large N limit of...

متن کاملCosmological Constant and Supergravity Soft Terms * Typeset Using Revt E X
In supergravity models, the quantum correction to the vacuum energy can be of order M I , if the cutoff is of order the Planck mass M 2 P and Str M2 6= 0. Therefore, the tree level cosmological constant must be nonzero (probably negative). Since the current practice of calculating soft parameters in supergravity models assumes the vanishing tree level cosmological constant, the supergravity cal...
متن کاملSpin dependent D-brane interactions and scattering amplitudes in matrix theory
Spin interactions between two moving Dp-branes are analyzed using the GreenSchwarz formalism of boundary states. This approach turns out to be extremely efficient to compute all the spin effects related by supersymmetry to the leading v4/r7−p term. All these terms are shown to be scale invariant, supporting a matrix model description of supergravity interactions. By employing the LSZ reduction ...
متن کاملThe Matrix Theory S – Matrix Jan
The technology required for eikonal scattering amplitude calculations in Matrix theory is developed. Using the entire supersymmetric completion of the v/r Matrix theory potential we compute the graviton–graviton scattering amplitude and find agreement with eleven dimensional supergravity at tree level.
